Egypt Honeymoon Guide: Best Destinations, Hotels & Romantic Itineraries
Egypt works for honeymoons in a way few other destinations match. You can spend one morning inside a 3,400-year-old pharaoh’s tomb, sail south on the Nile with a private cabin and sundowner cocktails that evening, then fly to a Red Sea beach resort for the second week. The range — archaeological drama combined with proper beach luxury — is the point.
The Best Honeymoon Destinations in Egypt
Sharm el-Sheikh
The most developed Red Sea resort area, with established 5-star hotels, calm shallow water ideal for snorkelling and diving, and a well-functioning tourist infrastructure. Naama Bay has the nightlife; Sharks Bay and the newer developments toward Ras Nasrani are quieter and more upmarket. Sharm is the right choice if you want a genuinely relaxing beach week with few logistics to manage.
Honeymoon hotels in Sharm el-Sheikh:
Four Seasons Resort Sharm el-Sheikh — The benchmark Red Sea luxury property. Private beach, lagoon pools, excellent restaurants, and a spa. Honeymoon suites with direct pool access available. From approximately USD 450–700 per night as of 2026.
Rixos Premium Sharm el-Sheikh (Sharks Bay) — Ultra-all-inclusive with multiple restaurants, beach clubs, and an adults-only pool area that’s popular with honeymooners. From approximately USD 350–550 per night.
Hyatt Regency Sharm el-Sheikh — Large resort with a private coral reef accessible directly from the beach — a genuine selling point for snorkelling couples. From approximately USD 250–400 per night.
Hurghada
More accessible from Cairo (45-minute flight or 6-hour drive) and with strong diving infrastructure. Less polished than Sharm but with genuinely excellent reef access. Soma Bay, about 45 km south of the main town, is the upmarket enclave — quieter, more exclusive, better suited to honeymooners.
Honeymoon hotels in Hurghada:
Kempinski Hotel Soma Bay — Isolated position on its own peninsula, private beach, world-class kite-surfing centre, excellent spa. From approximately USD 300–500 per night.
Sheraton Soma Bay Resort — Quieter than central Hurghada, beach access, respected for service quality. From approximately USD 200–350 per night.
Luxor
No other place on earth has this concentration of ancient monuments within a few kilometres. The West Bank has the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut’s temple; the East Bank has Karnak and Luxor Temple, which at night — lit by floodlights against a black sky — is one of the most visually arresting experiences in any country.
Luxor is not a traditional beach honeymoon but it is extraordinary as an experience destination. Stay three to four nights and combine it with a Nile cruise ending in Aswan.
Honeymoon hotels in Luxor:
Sofitel Winter Palace Luxor — The historic choice, built in 1886, with a formal English garden, Nile-facing rooms, and a genuine sense of occasion. From approximately USD 200–350 per night.
Al Moudira Hotel — Boutique property on the West Bank with individually designed rooms, a pool, and near-silence — a million miles from the tourist bustle despite being minutes away. From approximately USD 180–280 per night. Worth booking months in advance.
Nile Cruise: Luxor to Aswan
A four-night cruise from Luxor to Aswan (or vice versa) is the centrepiece of most Egypt honeymoons. You stop at Edfu and Kom Ombo temples en route, arrive into Aswan and visit Philae Temple and the Aswan High Dam. The pacing is gentle — you’re not rushing between sights, you’re waking up at anchor beside a temple with coffee and watching the riverside life.
Cruise options:
Oberoi Philae — Small ship (27 cabins), all suites with Nile-facing windows, exceptional food, very attentive service. The gold standard for honeymoon cruises. From approximately USD 650–900 per person per night all-inclusive.
Sonesta St George I — Larger (51 cabins) but with a good reputation and a sun deck ideal for watching the Nile pass. From approximately USD 250–400 per person per night.
Dahabiya (traditional sailing vessel): A private dahabiya sleeps 4–12 guests and sails at the wind’s pace — a completely different and more romantic experience than the standard cruise ship. Several operate between Aswan and Luxor on 4–7 day itineraries. Operators include Nour el-Nil (from approximately USD 1,800 per cabin per week, full board) and Aswan Dahabiya Tours.
Cairo: The Opening Night
Fly into Cairo, check into a good hotel and get over jet lag. The Pyramids for a private sunrise visit the next morning — before the tour groups arrive around 9am — is one of those genuinely once-in-a-lifetime moments. Cairo doesn’t need more than two days for most honeymoon couples.
Honeymoon hotels in Cairo:
The Nile Ritz-Carlton Cairo — Recently renovated, on the Corniche opposite the Egyptian Museum, excellent rooftop bar with Nile views. From approximately USD 300–500 per night.
Marriott Mena House (Giza) — The only hotel in the world with a Pyramid view from the pool. If you can afford it, this is the honeymoon statement Cairo choice. From approximately USD 350–600 per night.
Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at Nile Plaza — Consistently excellent, central Garden City location, spa, and some of the best restaurants in the city. From approximately USD 350–600 per night.

Best Time for an Egypt Honeymoon
October–November: Ideal. Temperatures drop to 25–32°C in Luxor and Cairo, perfect for sightseeing. Red Sea water temperature still warm from summer (27–28°C). Slightly lower hotel rates than peak season.
December–January: Peak season with higher prices. Christmas and New Year see significant rate increases at all luxury hotels. The weather is perfect but hotels should be booked 3–6 months ahead.
February–March: Excellent choice. Cool mornings, warm afternoons, light crowds. Value window before Easter.
April: Warm, sometimes crowded at Easter, but generally good. Khamseen winds (dusty desert winds) can occasionally affect Cairo for a day or two.
May–September: Hot. Luxor in August regularly exceeds 42°C. Red Sea resorts are manageable because of the breeze off the water, but inland touring is genuinely uncomfortable. Not recommended for a honeymoon unless the itinerary is 100% beach.
Honeymoon Practical Notes
Inform hotels in advance: Most Egyptian hotels — even mid-range ones — will prepare something for honeymooners if you mention it at booking. Expect flower arrangements, a cake, fruit platters, or a room upgrade. It costs nothing to ask.
Nile cruise booking: The best cabins on small ships (Dahabiya, Oberoi Philae) book out 3–6 months ahead, particularly for the October–March window. Book early.
Internal flights: EgyptAir and Air Cairo serve the Cairo–Luxor, Cairo–Aswan, Luxor–Aswan, and Aswan–Sharm el-Sheikh routes. Book through the airline websites or a local travel agent in Egypt rather than international booking engines for better pricing.
Tipping culture: Tipping is embedded in Egypt’s service economy. Budget approximately USD 2–5 per service (porter, guide, boat staff, housekeeping). On Nile cruises, a tip of USD 10–20 per person per day split among the crew at the end is standard.
Travel insurance: Essential. Medical care in tourist areas is available but expensive for foreigners. The EKTA insurance widget below provides multi-trip and single-trip options appropriate for Egyptian travel.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is Egypt a good honeymoon destination?
- Egypt offers a rare combination — ancient wonders, Red Sea beaches, and genuine romance on a Nile cruise — at a price point well below comparable luxury in the Maldives or Seychelles. The contrast of tomb-lit temples in Luxor followed by a private beach in Sharm el-Sheikh makes for a particularly memorable honeymoon itinerary.
- What is the best time for a honeymoon in Egypt?
- October to April is ideal. Temperatures in Luxor and Cairo are comfortable (18–28°C), and the Red Sea is warm and calm year-round. December and January are peak season with higher hotel rates. March and April offer excellent value — warm, uncrowded, and just before Ramadan in many years.
- How much does an Egypt honeymoon cost?
- A 10-day Egypt honeymoon in mid-range comfort costs approximately USD 3,500–6,000 per couple including flights from Europe, a 4-night Nile cruise, and 3 nights at a Red Sea resort. Luxury versions with 5-star hotels and private guided tours run USD 8,000–15,000+. Budget-conscious couples can do the same itinerary for USD 2,000–3,500 with careful booking.
- Do you need to dress conservatively for a honeymoon in Egypt?
- In Cairo and at historical sites, modest clothing (covered shoulders, knees) shows respect and reduces unwanted attention. At Red Sea resorts (Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada), swimwear is completely standard at the beach and pool. Pack a mix for both contexts.
