The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) updated its Egypt travel advice on 4 August 2026, incorporating the rapidly deteriorating regional security picture driven by the ongoing US-Iran conflict.

Separately, the US Embassy in Cairo issued a security alert on 1 August warning American citizens that Iran has expanded its targeting to areas not previously at risk, including Egypt, and that US citizens should consider departing the region or be prepared to do so at short notice.

The FCDO’s August 4 update revises the risk assessment for Egyptian airspace and major urban centres. Key advisories now in effect:

  • Airspace: Monitor flight status closely before travel. Regional military activity has caused airspace closures with little warning in neighbouring countries; Egypt’s airspace has not yet been directly disrupted but remains at elevated risk.
  • Aqaba region and Sinai: Extra caution advised for overland travel near the Israeli and Gazan borders and in the Sinai Peninsula.
